Frequently asked questions about campervan hire in Madrid

Everything you need to know before hiring your campervan.

Drivers & requirements

Who can hire a campervan at Camper.Madrid?
Anyone over 25 years old with a valid category B driving licence held for at least two years. This is an insurance requirement, not ours. Additional drivers are free of charge as long as they meet the same criteria.
Do I need a special licence to drive a campervan?
No. All our campervans are under 3,500 kg, so a standard category B driving licence is all you need. If you can drive a van, you can drive our campervan.
How many people can travel and sleep?
Our campervans are approved for 2 to 4 travellers. All have a fixed bed and, depending on the model, removable 1.30 m bunk beds. The interior layout is designed so nobody sleeps uncomfortably.

Booking & process

Do I have to pay online to book?
No. At Camper.Madrid we don't take online payments. The process is simple: check availability, send us your request and we'll reply within 24 hours. Payment is settled in person on pick-up day, with no intermediaries or third-party platforms.
How does the booking process work step by step?
First, choose your dates and the campervan you like best. Then send us your request via the form or WhatsApp. We'll confirm availability and conditions within 24 hours. No endless forms or upfront online payments.
How much is the security deposit?
A €600 card hold is placed to collect the van, which is released once the van is returned in perfect condition. For partner vehicles the deposit may vary; we'll confirm this when booking.
What is the minimum rental period and how do prices vary by season?
The minimum is 3 days. Rates are split into three seasons: Low (from €85/day, min. 3 days), Mid — June, September and May bank holiday — (from €100/day, min. 5 days) and High — July, August and Easter — (from €130/day, min. 5 days). The price always includes unlimited mileage, insurance and accessories.

Equipment & self-sufficiency

What do I need to bring for the trip?
Just your clothes, towels and bedding. Everything else is already on board: full kitchen kit, cooking gas, chairs and table, levelling chocks, 230V external cable, blackout blinds and basic cleaning products. Load your bags and hit the road.
Are your campervans self-sufficient or do I need a campsite?
Completely self-sufficient. All our vans have a solar panel, large-capacity battery, electric fridge, hot water, diesel heater and a full bathroom with shower. You can go several days without connecting to any external supply.
What camper conversion do your vans have?
Our vans are converted by Fabricamper to the highest spec possible, ensuring you'll never be short of anything. All vans are modern and we refresh the fleet every two years.
Do I need to do any maintenance during the trip?
Beyond the usual for any vehicle (refuelling and AdBlue when the car asks), the campervans have fresh water, grey water and black water tanks to empty or refill. These are simple operations and we explain them step by step at handover.

Pick-up, drop-off & routes

Where do I pick up the campervan and what are the hours?
Pick-up is in Fuenlabrada, Madrid (we confirm the exact address upon booking). Check-in starts from 09:30 on the first day; return can be made until 21:00 on the last day. We reserve 30-minute slots per customer to explain everything without rushing. If you arrive by train, we can pick you up at Getafe Sector 3 station for an additional charge.
How many kilometres can I do? Can I leave Spain?
Unlimited kilometres on all our rentals, with no surcharge for distance. The insurance also covers the entire European Union, so you can cross borders with complete peace of mind.
Can I bring my pet?
Yes, and at no extra cost. At Camper.Madrid pets are welcome in all our own vans. We just ask that you bring the relevant documentation and return the van in the same clean condition.

Overnight stays & regulations

Can I sleep outside campsites in a campervan?
Yes. Being self-sufficient vehicles, you don't depend on the campsite network. You can overnight at motorway services, designated parking areas and zones where local regulations allow it. We recommend the Park4Night app to find the best spots on your route.
What's the difference between camping and parking?
The campervan is "parked" as long as you don't deploy anything that exceeds its perimeter, such as awnings, tables or chairs. As soon as you take items outside, it's considered camping and local camping regulations apply.

Insurance & breakdowns

What does the insurance cover?
All our own vans have fully comprehensive insurance with a €600 excess. That amount is held on your card on pick-up day and automatically released when the vehicle is returned in good condition. Partner vehicle conditions may vary and we'll let you know upon confirmation.
What happens if I break down or need help during the trip?
Our phone number is available to you throughout the rental. For mechanical breakdowns, the insurance includes roadside assistance. We give you all emergency contacts at handover so you know exactly who to call in any situation.
What happens if I damage the vehicle?
We're confident you'll take care of our van as if it were your own, but in case of damage it will be assessed and deducted from the deposit. For minor damage (a scratch, for example) only the cost of that repair is charged, not the full excess. If damage exceeds the excess, a claim is made with the insurance and the full excess is deducted.
